Crane Beach: Good Dogs, Off-Leash At The Beach

dogs playing with a ball at the beach outside Boston
When it comes to beaches, I am a bit of a snob after spending many a long summer on Nantucket’s white sand beaches. This sunny winter weekend, we took a ride just North of Boston to Crane Beach in Ipswich Massachusetts. We found an incredibly beautiful beach, where dogs are allowed to play off leash, at least in the winter.

Our Boston dog, who spent his puppyhood as a beach dog on Nantucket, was shaking with excitement when we pulled into the parking lot at Crane Beach. The salty ocean breeze, the sounds of talkative seagulls and the promise of saltwater meeting sand is as intoxicating to my dog as is myself. If you love going to the beach as much as we do, take a moment to learn more about Crane Beach, the Green Dog program and enjoy a bunch of pictures of dogs playing on the beach. Continue reading

Boston’s Most Dog Friendly Neighborhoods

Boston Skyline at Sunrise from The Navy Yard

One of the best things we can do for our dogs, and more importantly, our own sanity, is find a dog friendly place to live. Living in a neighborhood where there is a dog park for your dog to socialize, a nearby tree for those late night bathroom breaks and a dogs allowed mentality, are all important considerations when searching for a dog friendly home in Boston.

When I am not writing articles for Fido Loves, I am searching for dog friendly apartments and homes for clients moving to Boston. During the past six months I started taking notes as I looked at the various Boston neighborhoods and how they rate as a dog friendly neighborhood. I had sought out to answer the question; “Which neighborhoods in Boston are the most dog friendly?”. Recognizing the primary needs of a Boston dog owner, here is a quick overview of Boston’s most dog friendly neighborhoods.      Continue reading

What You Might Not Know: MSPCA-Angell

x-rays inside of a dog at Angell Animal Hospital

As I sat in the parking lot of the MSPCA-Angell gathering my camera, notebook, and pen; I could not help wondering how they could need such a big building. I had been offered a tour of the facility and an opportunity to meet some of the people who make the MSPCA-Angell happen. For the life of me, I could not imagine what was behind the doors to this old seminary. I share below what I learned about an incredible organization of people with the desire to help others, animals being the forefront of their efforts.      Continue reading

Walk The Dog At Boston’s Belle Isle Salt Marsh

Our Great Looking English Pointer Exploring the Salt Marsh in East Boston

We found ourselves looking for a place near Boston where we could spend some quality time with the dog; without the dog park. Sometimes, the dog park, which is perfect for letting your Boston dog socialize with other dogs, can be a bit much. This past weekend, we had one of those moments where we just wanted to find a quiet place for some quality family time, dog included.

Funny enough, we found Boston’s largest remaining salt marsh in one of the most unexpected places; East Boston. Right in the middle of a well developed area is the Belle Isle Salt Marsh Reservation. There you will find 241 acres of trails, sea grass, saltwater and views of Boston in the distance.  We had found a relatively unused place to play with the dog. Continue reading
