perfect for the Boston Dog these now stick collars will survive the Boston winter

Gift Ideas For Boston Dog Lovers

With the Holidays fast approaching we wanted to pull together a list of great gifts for Boston dogs and their owners. In order to make our list special we set out to create our gift list for dog owners by focusing on gifts found here in Boston at the fantastic collection of dog boutiques. For a dog owner, the greatest gift is usually something for their beloved fido. It seems you can never give too much to an animal that gives more back than most would ever understand. Here is our list of great gifts and the Boston dog boutiques where you will find them.

Boston Team Jerseys for Dogs

It is hard not to start out our list with Boston team jerseys for your dog that we found at Pawsh in Back Bay. Bostonians love their teams almost as much as one loves their dog. Pawsh has a great selection of Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, Boston College and University jerseys for the dogs who love sports. This is a great gift which I did not see anywhere else.

Kevin K Dog Bowls and Doggie Treat Jars

If you go downstairs at the Pawsh Dog Boutique you will find more great gifts for Boston dog owners. What caught Margie’s eye was the display of Kevin K dog bowls and treat jars. They are gorgeous and even more important, heavy enough to help stop fido from pushing the empty food bowl around the house. This would be a great gift for a well loved Boston dog.

Rasco Ready Leash and Bio-degradable Poop Bags

Rasco Dog is a Charlestown based company dedicated to making it easier for dog owners to pick up after their canine companions. We found this great gift for about $20 at Durty Harry’s, located in Charlestown as well. The  leash handle holds Rasco biodegradable poop bags which easily dispense when needed. What I really love is the bio-gradable poop bags which dispense from the center of the roll. Anyone who has chased a run-away roll of poop bags as they unroll across the floor first thing in the morning knows what I mean.

Dublin Dog No Stink Dog Collars

While you are at Durty Harry’s you should check out their selection of collars, particularly the Dublin Dog No-Stink Dog Collars. They are made from a rubberized material that feels great to the touch. The designs are hip and would look great on any Boston dog with an outdoor lifestyle.

West Paw Luxury Dog Bed

Our dog has a few dog beds tucked in the various rooms for him to retire to after a afternoon of play. One bed, his West Paw Doughnut Bed for dogs is his absolute favorite. I remember when we bought it for him I almost fell over t the price but we were wearing out lesser dog beds at an alarming rate. So Far this gorgeous bed has lasted for nearly two years making it one of the best deals I have come across yet. The most important part. It is clearly our dog’s favorite dog bed yet. Doggie Day in the South End of Boston has a fantastic selection of sizes shapes and colors. This is a really nice holiday gift for dog owners.

Hampton Hounds Dog Collar

I just barely caught these collars out of the corner of my eye, tucked in a glass case at Doggie Day in the South End. These vintage looking collars from Hampton Hounds are really nice and unique. I really thought this is a great find for a dog owner on a quest for a dog collar which stands out from the normal lot. To be honest, this collar simply reminds me how much I enjoy summers on Nantucket’s beaches with my dog and Margie. Nevertheless, cool collar…

Polka Dog Bakery Dog Treats

If you have never been to Polka Dog Bakery, grab you dog and check this place out. The store is beautiful, like an old general store of sorts. In stead of the big glass jars being filled with candies, Polka Dog bakes fantastic treats from all sorts of dog terrific ingredients. Our dog snorkels in the fantastic scents the entire time he is he visits Polka Dog Bakery. I can assure you their has been a Santa request on our beloved dog’s behalf or some of these in his Christmas Stocking. These are stocking stuffers which your dog will go wild for.

If you can’t make it to Polka Dog in the South End, they have a second store in Jamaica Plain. You will also find a smaller selection of their treats in most of the Boston Based Dog Boutiques. These dog treats are that good.

Teckelklub Dog Coat

At the Polka Dog Bakery in the South End of Boston tucked behind the counter of spectacular baked dog treats is a set of stairs leading to one of the best collections of dog coats we found in Boston. We also found Jane helping dog owners fit the various body types of different dogs with the proper coat. Jane pulled out the Teckelklub Dog coat (don’t ask me to pronounce it) for the waterproof and windproof shell, fleece lining, high collar and the coat’s knack for staying down near the dogs tail section. Polka Dog has plenty of other brands to choose from as well.

Also worth noting was this ball like toy with a fake mouse in it that makes a squeaking sound when moved for cats. Our dog was out of his mind by it. You can see a picture of this toy in the gallery below.

Coat and Harness Combination

When you walk into The Bark Place in the South End of Boston you find an amazing display of collars, leashes and harnesses for your boston dog. What really stood out was this combination of dog coat and harness allowing dog owners to simplify the process of getting their dog ready to go outside in Boston’s foul winter weather. The materials will keep your dog toasty warm, dry and connected to the end of your leash in one swoop. This is a great gift if you would like to make someone else’s life easier.

Potty Park Indoor Dog Potty

Who am I to judge? An indoor potty for small dogs? Cats have been doing it for years, why not small dogs? For some this can make living with a dog possible when living in the city. Whether it is availability or physical ability this indoor potty for dogs might make the difference enabling some people to have a dogs companionship. Quite honestly I have never seen one of these Potty Parks but I have certainly considered growing a lawn in our guest bathroom for our dog on many a Nor’ Easter. You can find this unique gift at The Bark Place in the South End of Boston.

Simply Fido Organic Dog Toy Collection

With the attention to lead in toys for children and dogs, Four Preppy Paws in Beacon Hill has a line of Organic Dog Toys by Simply Fido. They have some which are bigger and others which are smaller but all you would feel safe as your dog chews and walks around with them in their mouths.

Doggie Christmas Treats for Boston Dogs

Four Preppy Paws had plenty of Holiday Knick Knacks for Boston Dog Owners, there is more than I was able to picture. Although I will be adding the very cool dog scarves as soon as their next shipment comes in.

That’s It for Now

I hope you like it, that is my list of cool stuff for dog owners in Boston. I have to say this; spending the day with dog in tow, going from dog store to dog store in Boston was an absolute blast. If you are looking for a holiday event you can do with your dog I highly recommend grabbing your faithful dog and take them holiday shopping at Boston’s boutique dog stores. These shop owners are an intricate part of Boston’s dog community. Everyone we met were spectacular and a much needed resource for dog owners in Boston. If you can, take a moment and swing through their shops to see what they have found to enhance the lives of you and your dog(s) in Boston. And please by all means, if you have come across a great Holiday Gift or suggestion feel free to leave a comment for others to read.

As the next couple of weeks fly by I will keep adding to this article so make sure you check back again, Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to a great dog community….
