Durty Harry’s Dog Wash is Keeping Charlestown Clean

Moose’s nails have been in dire need of a trim.  I had heard good things about “Durty Harry’s” in Charlestown, which is a easy walk or quick drive from the Navy Yard.  Durty Harry’s is a dog wash where you can bathe and groom your own dog; saving your own bathroom from sure destruction. Our trip to this dog wash for Boston dogs was a pleasant surprise for the dog and me.

Getting There & The Shop

Durty Harry’s is located right on Main Street with parking easily available on the street.  The sign was not obvious,(at least for me) but easily found at number 287.  When I opened the door, I was surprised by how nice and clean the shop is kept.  Not what you expect when you are going to a place to bathe your dog.  Someone has good taste here which also shows in the selection of collars, toys, beds and food.

Dog Wash & Grooming

I was greeted by Jenny with a fantastic smile.  Jenny gave me a hand in clipping Moose’s nails.  Moose has become difficult while trimming his nails.  Since Margie has been very busy at work, finding a moment where both of us had the time to do nails has been tough.  I was not necessarily interested in sending him out because I like to do these things myself but I just needed a spare hand.  I have to admit that I was a bit concerned as cutting your dogs nails can be a challenge. However I am glad to report all three of us still have all our fingers and toes.

Durty Harry’s also has a number of tubs specifically designed for washing dogs.  For those tired of trashing your own bathroom while struggling to keep Fido in the tub, this is a fantastic option.  Harry’s has everything you need.  You bring your dirty dog, they clean up the mess afterwards. Simple as that. One thing you will find here besides the special tubs for dog washing is an extra hand and advice when you are unsure of something; like how to clean your dog’s ears.

For those interested, evidently, Thursday through Sunday they have a groomer on site.  I have not seen the quality of the work, but I will make a point to see if the groomer is good.  A good groomer is tough to find if you have a long coated dog.

Dog Food Delivery

What surprised me was the ability to order whatever brand of dog food you feed Fido and have it delivered to your home.  For many, I think this is a wonderful service, especially for those living in the city without access to a car.  Let someone else do the heavy lifting and save you the time trekking across town for a specific brand of food.

Great Atmosphere

While Moose and I were checking out the shop, Michelle (the owner) and Harry (her great dog) joined us.  Moose and Harry played while the adults talked. Michelle is a fantastic resource for Charlestown dog owners. If you are looking for a good dog walker, a better type of food to feed your dog or how to care for your dog’s paws when there is slat on the sidewalks this is a great place to come for advice. Quite simply very cool dog people.  I enjoyed chatting with Michelle and Jenny as much as Moose enjoyed playing with the store mascot, Harry.

An overview of services offered:

  • dog food delivery to the surrounding area (great brands)
  • full grooming services (hair, nails & aromatherapy)
  • wash your own dog (cheap)
  • collars, beds, great treats & toys
  • a fantastic shop to visit and people to chat with
  • durty harry-organized events for dog people

The best part is Moose made a new friend named Harry and he walked away with shorter nails and and a brown bag full of delectable treats.

  1. I brought my English Cocker Spaniel Saturday in for a wash and a trim which i usually do at home. The space was very clean, and it was nice to use a proper washing basin and not be hunched over in the tub. I was there for about 2 hours, using the grooming tables, producing a small mountain of dog hair. When I was done, my dog looked great, and I didn’t have to clean up a thing, which was the best part. I will defiantly be going back again.
