Today we found ourselves in the very dog-friendly town of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. If you live in Boston, Portsmouth is a great day trip from Boston. I promise to gin up a dog owner’s guide to Portsmouth much sooner than later. But for now, swing by Popovers for lunch, there is outdoor seating. The closest place to let your dog run and swim off-leash is at Pierce Island just out of town. Or head to Fort Foster on Kittery Point for a hike. When you are going from Portsmouth to Kittery Point you would drive over the Memorial Bridge, and this is where the story gets good….
The last time we were in Portsmouth the Memorial Bridge was under consideration to be permanently closed. The local community has been fighting to keep the bridge open and just recently had a huge win (Read More Here). As a frequent visitor from Boston, I am so incredibly glad to see this part of New England preserved for just a little while longer. Today’s photo was an effort conducted while enduring ice cold wind and the lack of proper outerwear. Our dog Moose is definitely not a fan of the grating where you can see the rocky ground below your feet. Our dog was very enthusiastic when his modeling duties were finished for the day. Actually, to those passing by we might have looked like we were torturing our dog. Fortunately, we have built a relationship of trust and really good dog treats.
