It’s Not Yappy Hour, It’s Yappier Hour at The Liberty Hotel
It used to be Yappy Hour at the Liberty Hotel, but the weekly event for Boston dog owners starting Wednesday May 4th of 2011 is “Yappier Hour”. This is the third year of a canine spin on Happy hour and will be held 5:30 until 8:00 pm each Wednesday through the summer and will continue into the fall as long as weather permits. Just think cocktails and dogtails at the swank Liberty Hotel’s enclosed courtyard called The Yard. To think when this place was a city jail, residents used to get their exercise in this yard.
The very pet friendly Liberty Hotel sets up an outside bar in “The Yard”, which is an enclosed courtyard for dogs and their owners. Drinks and appetizers were served among a unique mix of romping pooches and Bostonians. This is one of my favorite events for meeting other dog owners, enjoying a good cocktail and letting the dogs play in a great setting. There are a few additions to Yappier Hour this year as well.
The Liberty Hotel is an absolutely beautiful restoration of the old jail. Everyone I chatted with had only good things to say about the pet friendly hotel, the three bars - Clink, Alibi, Scampo and The Liberty Bar. The Liberty is located on the edge of Beacon Hill and the Esplanade, near Mass General Hospital. The enclosed space outside is called “The Yard” is a perfect setting for cocktails and conversation while your dog socializes.
This year, Dogwood Cottage is providing canine cocktails to keep the dogs refreshed and Four Preppy Paws is providing dog treats as a reward for good behavior.
The gathering of owners was a perfect mix of Bostonians. Everyone I met was incredibly nice and a pleasure to chat with. Last year we ran into a reporter, Jonathan, from the Improper Bostonian checking out the scene with camera and pen in hand. Last year, the Improper even mentioned our dog and Fido Loves.
This year you can expect to see us a Yappier Hour on a regular basis, camera in hand. When I get good pictures I will keep adding them to the photo gallery below. One of my favorite pictures came from this event last year. I am looking forward to another season of socializing, cocktails and picture taking. Here, here, for the dogs!

He was a very cool puppy at the Liberty Hotel last week. I think by the time he reaches his first birthday most of Boston will know him.

Hi Jay!
I’m sorry Georgie and I could not make yappy hour this week, but hopefully we will return soon! I had such a blast last week “dog sitting” for Georgie, can’t wait to see the pics from last week! Also, the pictures of Moose on your blog are awesome! It was so great to meet him!

It was great seeing someone dog-sitting out for cocktails at Yappier Hour. You might be the greatest dog-sitter ever. I sent a shot of you and Georgie to your email. See you soon.

What a great time at Yappier Hour this week. Kudos to the Liberty Hotel for the stellar reno of The Yard . . . perfect for our pouches. I cannot say how great it is to have a five-star venue cater to dogs. Keep it up . . . we’ll be there!

Not good for dogs under 10 pounds. There is a fence that small dogs can fit though and run onto the street.

Heather, that is an excellent point. I will add to the article to watch very small dogs and the fence on the back side of the Yard where a small dog could slip through. Thank you
