The Harborview in the Charlestown Navy Yard might be one of the most dog friendly luxury rental buildings in Boston. It is rare to find a luxury apartment building, in Boston, that will accept larger dogs. This luxury building does not have a weight limit for dogs, there is a two dog limit and the usual breed restrictions. Located on the waterfront, in one of Boston's most dog friendly neighborhoods, you can comfortably live with your dog within minutes of downtown Boston.
Constructed to be sold as very high end as very high end condominiums, the quality of the construction and finish of these units show throughout. In each unit you will find Brazilian cherry hardwood flooring throughout the living areas, stone in the bathrooms and carpeting in the bedrooms. The kitchens feature modern cabinetry, stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. Some units have GE Profile, others Viking and SubZero depending on price point. You will find a stacked laundry in each apartment in addition to a common laundry in the building for larger items. These apartments have a nice airy feel thanks to the large windows and generous ceiling heights.
The Harborview is a full service luxury building. There is a concierge/doorman available to welcome guests, accept packages and assist with other arrangements. There is a dry cleaning pick up and drop off service as well as a free shuttle to and from Government Center for residents of the Harborview, both of which would interest those working in downtown Boston. Dog food delivery may be arranged to this building though Durty Harry's in Charlestown. There is also pick up/drop off service for dog daycare at this building in addition to a great selection of dog walkers in the area.
The parking garage is climate controlled. Each unit includes one parking space with additional parking available ($200/month). Guest parking in the garage is also available, free of charge. After living in Boston without dedicated parking, this might be one of the top amenities for residents.
The building also has a small gym, with a larger gym slated for construction in August 2010. The community room with pool table, flatscreen and kitchen is available for general use and private parties. There is also a common roof deck on the eighth floor. In addition to the new gym a theater room is slated for construction later this year.
For a dog owner, the Navy Yard is a fantastic option for dog friendly living in Boston. It is my favorite dog friendly neighborhood and for people working in the financial district of Boston or on a reverse commute, incredibly convenient. There is the MBTA water shuttle that runs between the Navy Yard and Downtown Boston. There is a water taxi service from outside this rental building to the airport. You can quickly drive into Boston or access Route 93.
This is a "No Fee" building. Only first month, security deposit and key charge. Each dog is $50 per month (two dog limit). There is storage available as well.
