I love your website, and when I have a few minutes I go through your archives and pull up posts I’ve not read before. We were in Maine last fall for a regional Leonberger weekend at the Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport (exceptional dog friendly hotel!). My husband and I spent an afternoon in Portland after taking a walk at Goose Rocks beach…an afternoon in Portland is definitely not enough time. We hit a few of my parent’s favorite places in Portland. One of which was The Standard Baking Company. Their cinnamin raisin bread is phenomenal. We had lunch at the farmer’s table, also per my parent’s suggestion. They were very dog friendly; bringing our Leonberger, Rutger, a bowl of water with ice and lemon! The only down side to the afternoon was the human dressed as a lobster in front of Three Sons Lobster & Fish. Rutger refused to get within ten feet of the lobster, and he continued looking back over his shoulder for several blocks! But Rutger was thrilled to select a stuffed lobster toy from Fetch – go figure!

Funny, Margie’s family just returned from a summer rental on Peak’s Island. They said is was beautiful. We were just talking about taking one of the boats out to the island next time we are in Portland (one of our favorite places). Thank you for sharing your spot.

I grew up in Portland and my parents have a house on Peaks Island. If you take the Casco Bay Lines boat out for about about 20min. you and your dog will love the quaint little dog friendly island

An update . . . the Portland Lobster Company is open for the 2010 season! Jay, Moose and I went up on Saturday and spent the afternoon on the back deck having a fantastic lobster roll lunch with Benzinger 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, listening to Mitch, the one-man band guitarist. It was fantastic!!
