The Urban Hound Daycare and Hotel in Boston
Overnight boarding or daycare for dogs has always been a challenge in Boston. I was excited to hear Rebecca Wilson of The Urban Hound opened a luxury dog daycare and hotel in the South End of Boston. I was even more excited when we visited this upscale hotel for Boston dogs, excited enough to come back after the grand opening to let our dog play in the indoor dog park while I took a few photographs. The Urban Hound Hotel is a gorgeous place, perfect for Boston dogs.
A Luxury Dog Hotel and Much More
While checking out the Urban Hound Hotel you will see this is a full service hotel, think Five Star. From the Dog Spa for grooming and baths, to the indoor/outdoor dog park with K9Grass and training sessions with an in-house dog trainer. The facility has a very chic design that looks great, has a great atmosphere and I could see my dog being very comfortable while I am away.
Great location in Boston
The location is fantastic, just off Albany Street , if you live in Boston’s South End you could easily walk over to pick up and drop off your dog. By car, the Urban Hound Hotel is very accessible from other Boston neighborhoods. Parking, always seems to be available right in front of the building, a huge bonus in Boston.
In my opinion…
The Urban Hound Hotel is incredibly well done. The facility has a great design which more closely resembles home than kennel. The way I look at it, my dog would be much more relaxed in a comfortable environment while I am away. At least, while I was away, I would be much more relaxed knowing my dog is in a comfortable environment.
The staff is fantastic with all the dogs, not just mine. Whether at the front desk or in the indoor dog park, the people who work there were consistently interacting with the dogs. It is the little gestures I witnessed while taking the photographs, that make a big difference. Dogs who were tired from wrestling and were looking for a place to lay down were moved to a quiet dog section. Dogs that had revived from their slumber were moved back to the playful dog section. Balls were thrown, tricks were performed and heads were scratched. In short, the dogs are treated like guests of a five star hotel.
The dog trainer Nick Miller, was working with a couple of different dogs while I was there. I have watched him work with dogs in the past and doubt I have ever said a word. But in my opinion he is an excellent dog trainer, adapting his style to suit each dog instead of sticking to a certain style or training dogma. He has a good even keel temperament himself, which I believe is the foundation for a good dog trainer.
Do your dog a favor and take a look at the Urban Hound Hotel for yourself. Until then, here are a few photos from a dog’s point of view.
The care of another person’s dog is an incredible responsibility that takes a special type of person to do well. Fortunately, Rebecca Wilson of the Urban Hound and the entire staff have that gift. Let me start with, I do not take the care of another person’s dog lightly, nor do I write or recommend because someone is paying me.
